2019年8月28日に、これを書いている。偶然、ネットフリックスで見つけて。アマゾンプライムで『This Is Football』を見つけたときにも思ったけれども、昔よりも、ドキュメンタリーがうまく見つけやすくなっているし、良質なものが多い気がする。Occupy Wall Street、We are the 99%、ヒラリークリントンを追い詰めた2016年の大統領選民主党予備選のバーニー・サンダースの躍進、民主社会主義(democratic socialism)という米国では毛嫌いされる共産主義の匂いのする政策や理念の浸透、民主党の左への偏り、極左の躍進、これらの雰囲気の果てに、、、、にもかかわらず、2017年に米国では第45代ドナルドトランプ大統領が登場している。僕は、2013年から米国に住んでいるので、第二期オバマ政権末期からのこの米国の雰囲気を肌で感じているのですが、ずっとトランプさんの支持は根強いな、陰りが見えないなと、2019年の8月の現在感じます。なのに同時に、民主党の左への傾斜が止まらないのも肌で感じるのです。2018年の中間選挙の結果が、まさにこの不思議な感じを裏付けていると思います。民主党が下院を奪還するも、上院は共和党が過半数を確保。
